Inner-City Outreach

We want to start a movement of Jesus in the inner cities of Palm Beach County, and that starts with showing loving and tangibly serving the people God has placed around. We can show love and server through a number of different ways.

Is God leading you to step out of your comfort zone?

Check out our inner-city ministries.

The outreach department of Bow Down Church works to assist the church in achieving its missional and visional goals. With a strong backing from Bow Down’s Project 5:16, teaching ministry of Pastor Chris Tress, the Unmasked Inner Healing ministry led by Joyce Romack, house churches, and various other ministries inside the church. The outreach department is launching a strategic, and precise gospel campaign into the inner city of West Palm Beach and beyond. We seek to promote God’s kingdom through all outreach and invite all to bow down under His reign over all things and welcome His rule in their lives. We believe His rule brings about the best for all and are committing ourselves to reach out and help others walk in this. Our desire is to be a bridge for the church into the dark corners of our community so those on the streets would be connected to love and hope from outreach initiatives and ultimately become disciples who do what God is calling them to do.

At Bow Down, we want to match compassionate and committed Christians, 18 years of age and older, with youth grades 3-12, to build a long-term relationship of trust and stability. In these relationships, youth will receive the love and message of Jesus Christ and have opportunities to grow as disciples. They will have a positive role model to look up to, and a caring adult friend to have fun with. Parents will have a friend they can trust who cares deeply about the well- being of their children.

Mentoring is open to a flexible schedule, with a minimum of 2 times per month. We ask that you commit to a child for a minimum of one year to establish consistency and trust in their life. The process to get started requires an application, some training videos and an interview with the Mentoring Program Coordinator. This is a great opportunity to be a real direct influence on a child’s life. Download the Mentoring Program Brochure by clicking here or you can go ahead and fill out a volunteer application here and email it back to Cheryl McQuade at to get started.

A Sentinel is a soldier or guard whose job is to stand and keep watch. Our Sentinel’s do this through intercessory prayer. We understand that only Jesus can change lives and we realize nothing happens apart from Him. Our Sentinel’s take time in the morning to walk the streets of the Tamarind community praying for God’s hand to move, crying out for God to have mercy on this community. They also prayer walk during our different outreaches, intercede during unmasked prayer ministry sessions, and during our Sunday morning service. Our goal is to have people praying while all of our ministries are taking place.

God wants to see the inner city of West Palm Beach transformed. We want the kids of this community to have positive role models teaching them instead of the streets teaching them. We want the women to feel safe and cherished, We want the men to rise up and become the leaders of their own community. Change, at its core, happens through relationships. And we believe the best way to bring change to any community is to develop and grow the a Christ like community.

We are buying and renovating houses until we have a house on each street in the Tamarind Community. We currently have Indigenous leadership housing, Bow Down staff housing and Project 516 Discipleship housing. Over time, transformation at the foundational level of the neighborhood will have ripple effects into every area of the community – every business, every church, every school.

There are three ways a house becomes a Restored Home:

Indigenous Leadership Housing

Indigenous leaders that have shown a proven track record for serving this community will be provided an opportunity to rent to own their own home, with an interest free loan from our church. It is our desire to for them broaden their influence and take ownership of their own community.

Staff Housing

Some of our staff has to raise their own salary. Offering them a house to live in will bring down the monthly financial amount they will need to raise.

Project 516 Housing

We currently have an internship program within our ministry. Young adults live in the community rent-free and serve the community 20 hours/week with the end goal to have an outreach in every housing project where the most at-risk youth live.

Project 5:16 derives its name from Matthew 5:16. This verse is ultimately our end goal for our disciples because as you walk in Christlikeness, you will live for the Father.

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Program Description:

Project 5:16 is an intense, ten-month discipleship program that is based on the model of Jesus choosing the twelve and doing life with them.  Young adults move into the inner city, where they serve alongside ministry leaders in a number of different ways- prayer walks, street evangelism, homeless ministry, service projects, sports outreaches, Bible studies and many other ministry opportunities. The main thrust of Project 5:16 is this: We care more about who you are then what you do. This is how Christ made disciples. The students will journal through and memorize the book of Ephesians, read 10 books, receive counseling ministry, and have accountability partners as they learn how to live as Christ.

Basic aspects of Project 5:16 include:

  • Disciples will live and work in the Tamarind Avenue Community, primarily working with at risk, inner-city children.
  • Disciples will have a leader pouring into their lives in a one on one setting that will challenge them to live as Christ through high accountability and encouragement.
  • Disciples will be equipped in God’s Word
  • Disciples will learn how to live in community with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ
  • Disciples will learn how to effectively minister in a various setting
  • Disciples will put what they believe and have learned into practice by loving and serving people of the community through the ministries of Bow Down Church

The three goals of Project 5:16:

Your discipleship and who you become as a person is more of a priority than what you do during your time at Project 5:16.  (Romans 8:29, Luke 6:40, 1 John 2:5-6) Galatians 4:19 ”My little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you!”

Learning to be in community is rearranging from “me” to “we.” It involves putting others above yourself. (John 13:34-35, Philippians 2:1-4, Psalm 23, Psalm 133)

John 17:21 “That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

You will serve this community, as you proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ through various outreaches, Bible studies, mentoring, and service projects. (Matthew 16:24)

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 “…gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

Vision: That the Tamarind community would be the best place to live in all of West Palm Beach because we have connected mentors to mentees and are succeeding in disciple making.

The outreach department of Bow Down is committed to taking the word “Go” in the great commission seriously and reaching people beyond the walls of the church. It is our goal to S.T.O.R.M. (Street Treading Operation Rescue Mission) into the Tamarind community to love and tangibly serve the people God has placed in our communities through a number of different initiatives: prayer walks, street evangelism, partnership with Urban Youth Impact, outreaches in every housing project in West Palm Beach, coffee talks, music concerts, sports outreach, prison ministry, homeless outreach, etc. It is our goal to rescue lost souls in our community while being filled with the Holy Spirit so as to effectively reach out and bear eternal fruit. We are currently reaching out to over 400 people on a weekly basis.
